Mining profitability depends on your miner's hashrate, its power consumption, your electricity rate, the current coin price, and the network difficulty. This calculator uses a standard solo-mining revenue formula, which closely approximates pool mining revenue before pool fees.
Revenue Formula
For SHA-256 (Bitcoin): Daily Revenue = (Miner TH/s / Network TH/s) x 144 blocks x 3.125 BTC x BTC Price.
The same structure applies to other algorithms: divide your hashrate by the network hashrate, multiply by daily blocks and block reward, then convert to USD using the coin price.
Cost Formula
Daily Power Cost = (Watts / 1000) x 24 hours x $/kWh.
This assumes the miner runs 24/7. Real costs may include cooling overhead, facility fees, and internet. Rax hosting rates are all-inclusive.
What electricity rate should I use?
Use your all-in electricity rate including delivery charges, taxes, and fees. Residential rates in the US typically range from $0.08 to $0.15/kWh. Industrial and colocation hosting rates can be as low as $0.03 to $0.06/kWh. Rax offers hosting starting at $0.055/kWh.
Why does my actual mining revenue differ from the calculator?
This calculator provides theoretical estimates assuming constant difficulty and price. Actual results vary due to pool fees (typically 1-2%), mining luck variance, network difficulty adjustments (roughly every 2 weeks for Bitcoin), hardware downtime, and ambient temperature affecting performance. Transaction fees earned by miners are also not included.
What is J/TH efficiency?
Joules per Terahash (J/TH) measures how energy-efficient a miner is. Lower is better. A miner rated at 15 J/TH uses 15 watts for every TH/s of hashrate. Newer generation miners like the Antminer S21 XP achieve around 12 J/TH, while older models like the S19 are around 30 J/TH.
How often are network stats updated?
Coin prices are fetched live from CoinGecko each time you load the page. Network hashrate and block rewards for Bitcoin, Litecoin, and Kaspa are updated hourly from live APIs (mempool.space, litecoinspace.org, api.kaspa.org). Ethereum Classic, Decred, and Dash use static estimates. Bitcoin network difficulty adjusts approximately every 2,016 blocks (~2 weeks).
